Dr. Benedek founded Anaergia in 2007. He held the role of Chairman of the Board from 2021-2024 and also held the role of CEO from June 2014 through June 2023. Previously, Dr. Benedek founded ZENON Environmental with the purpose of developing cost-effective membrane technologies for recycling wastewater. Under his leadership, ZENON invented, developed and commercialized many of the key membrane technologies used for municipal water and wastewater treatment and was the global leader in this field. He holds an engineering degree (chemical) from McGill University in Montreal, Québec and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington with a focus on wastewater treatment. Dr. Benedek was also a professor at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario and a Research Associate at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego, California.
